The Evolving
Constitution
July 7-11, 2008
Workshop Facilitators:
In this workshop we will target constitutional
themes that can be traced across the U.S. History curriculum. Some of
the themes and topics will be early constitutional models (Iroquois
Confederacy, Mayflower Compact, and the New York State Constitution),
evolving forms of democracy at all levels (town meetings, school board
elections, and Presidential primaries), the struggle to implement
constitutional principles in the early national period and beyond, the
debates and battles over the separation of powers within the federal
government and between the federal and state governments, and the
struggles of
various groups of American citizens to have their constitutional rights
recognized and enforced.
