THE CHANGING ROLES OF WOMEN IN THE 1920s

Time Allocation: 2 - 3 days

Overview:
As a result of the women's movement, the social, economic, and political roles of women changed dramatically from the 1880s to the 1920s. Using a variety of materials, students will chart the changes and then use their chart to write an essay comparing the traditional roles of women in the 1880s to those in the 1920s. This lesson incorporates an interactive student activity and links to a variety of web resorces.

Lesson Objectives:

Students will:
  • Demonstrate an accurate understanding of the roles of women today
  • Access and use information from a variety of sources
  • Discriminate between relavant and irrelevant information
  • Paraphrases/summarize information in a chart
  • Write an essay demonstrating their understanding of the changes in women's roles
