The Certificate Program in the Teaching of American History requires the successful completion (with an overall average grade of B+) of three (4-unit) graduate courses in United States history, at least one of which must be drawn from a core, two-course sequence, "Issues in U.S. History."
Courses beyond those included in the core sequence may be drawn from any graduate courses in U.S. history taught within the History Department. Course scheduling attempts to meet the needs of employed teachers, with a significant proportion of courses meeting at late afternoon and evening times.
In the semester in which a student is completing course requirements for the Certificate, s/he should apply to Professor Thomas Dublin, Director of the Certificate Program, who will ensure that the Certificate is awarded and noted on the student's official transcript.
Area teachers and Binghamton University graduate students interested in participating in any of the Center's programs should contact the Center's Director, Adam Laats, at (607) 777-6769 or via email.
