Penelope Harper--Senior Education Specialist

Penelope Harper is a Senior Education Specialist at the Center and has
developed and run workshops since 2001.
As well as working with the Center, Penelope is currently a full-time
teacher in the Broome-Tioga BOCES New Visions program. Her work there
includes supervising high school student internships in the fields of
education and law, and teaching 12th grade Economics and Participation in
Government. She has a permanent certification to teach social studies in
New York State and received a Masters in Teaching from Binghamton
University in 2004.
Penelope also has a Ph.D. in American History from Binghamton University
and has held a number of academic positions, including Assistant Professor
of History at Louisiana State University. She is currently working on a
book about investigations into women's paid work from 1880 to 1920, and
she
is planning future research projects on the history and politicization of
the social studies curriculum.
