Peer Review Conference
March 29, 2008
Time- 8:45-1:00
Location: School of Education, Building B, Room 347
The peer review conference is a chance for teachers to present lesson and units they developed using materials and ideas from the summer workshops, and to get feedback from fellow educators. You are free to develop lessons either collaboratively with other workshop participants, or individually.

The learning experience you present could be a lesson spanning one or two days, or a longer unit. It should incorporate student use of the primary documents relating to some aspect of the material we covered during the the summer workshops. Feel free to use any of the documents from the reader or those listed on our website. Or, if you prefer, find the documents on your own that work for you lesson or unit.

Each participant or collaborative group will have a 45-minute session to present their lesson or unit and receive feedback from their peers. When not presenting, participants will serve as the audience for other presentations. The audience members will have an active role as "critical friends," offering comments and suggestions to the presenters.

This past year we held one summer workshop:

"War As A Turning Point"

Participants from the workshop will come together in one all-day peer review conference on March 29, 2008, on the Binghamton University Campus. Teachers will observe and comment on presentations from both workshops. Other members of the educational community will also be invited to participate as critical friends.

During the school year we will be offering some help and guidance as you prepare your lesson and presentation:

  • We have developed a lesson plan template to help you outline and organize your lesson. Each teacher or collaborative group will submit the lesson plan before they teach the material.
  • As the peer review conference approaches, we will be sending out reminders and suggested presentation formats and asking you to submit outlines and materials to us.
  • We will also be available for consultation and advice on putting together an effective presentation. If you would like someone to observe your lesson, we can arrange for a visit to your classroom.
  • Photocopying is available to participants who get their materials to us no later than March 12, 2008
The strongest individual projects will be published on this website for use by other teachers and librarians.
