We offer week-long summer workshops for teachers and
librarians in the
school districts of Broome, Seneca, Tompkins and Tioga counties. Topics
are developed in
accordance New York State curriculum standards in U.S. History.
Workshops take place on the Binghamton University campus; they are
co-facilitated by Binghamton University faculty and experienced social
studies teachers. We have held workshops in the summers of
2002-2006, and will offer another in July 2007, "War as a Turning Point:
American Conflicts at Home and Abroad".
- Each workshop has space for twenty participants
- Teachers and librarians are nominated for participation by their
individual districts
- Participants receive stipends from their districts to attend the
week-long program
- A buffet lunch is provided each day
- Resource materials are provided for participants
After the completion of the workshop, each
participant prepares an individual teaching unit to be tested during the
following academic year and presented to a formal Peer Review
conference the following spring. The strongest individual projects
will be published on this wesbsite for use by other teachers and
librarians.
Teachers in area schools who are interested in enrolling in the summer
workshop or in being added to a mailing list regarding future program
activities should contact the project coordinator, Ms. Allyn Van Deusen,
either by email or by phone
at (607) 777-6769. We will maintain a listing of interested librarians
and teachers should any openings develop for the upcoming workshops.
