Workshop Facilitators: This workshop
will focus on the Civil Rights
Movement in the 20th century. We will discuss content and teaching
strategies for the origins, events, and legacy of the mid-20th century
civil rights revolution in the United States. We will discuss content and
develop teaching strategies relating to civil rights leaders, groups, and
opponents. Key themes include re-definitions of citizenship, the legal and
ideological rationales for nonviolent resistance, and the changing role of
the federal government.
