"AMERICA AND EUROPE BETWEEN THE WARS"
January 26, 2004
Deposit Central School District, Deposit, NY

Facilitator: Dr. Dan Lerner, Binghamton University

Focus on Documents:
At the CTAH we emphasize teaching with documents. We believe that primary documents can draw students into history in ways that challenge and excite them. Through examining documents students are faced with the realities of history and they learn to be critical thinkers. Primary documents are an increasingly important part of the curriculum and are now used regularly in New York State standardized tests. Note: some of the websites below offer a mix of documents and accompanying narrative.

Today's Workshop:
In this workshop, we will explore a sampling of internet resources that address many social, economic, and political issues embedded in the experience of the United States and Europe between World Wars I and II.

Tasks for the Session:
In groups of two or three, read through the documents housed on the websites below. Working together, we will do the following:

1. Create a CRQ or a DBQ that utilizes these documents. The documents you select and the questions you create are entirely up to you.

2. Present your CRQ or DBQ to the full group at the end of the session.
